A Guide To “Tulsa King” Filming Locations

BY Hilary Harty | December 2, 2024

Oklahoma’s second largest city and one of the most important centers of the country’s oil industry, Tulsa is also known these days as the setting for “Tulsa King,” which just wrapped its second season. The mafia-driven crime dramedy stars Sylvester Stallone and was created by Taylor Sheridan, the one also behind shows like “Yellowstone” and “1883.” Stallone plays Dwight “The General” Manfredi, a freshly released prisoner and Invernizzi crime Capo sent to Tulsa to set up shop. The show also stars Martin Starr, Garrett Hedlund, and Max Casella, among others, and follows Manfredi’s journey as he adjusts to life in the Southwest.

The first season of the show was filmed in and around Tulsa and Oklahoma City, and here are our favorite spots featured. [Note: The show moved to Atlanta for the second season. That guide is coming soon.]

Boston Avenue – Tulsa, Okla.

Philtower Building, South Boston Avenue, Tulsa, OK, USA

Located in downtown Tulsa, Boston Avenue runs through the heart of the city’s Deco District known for towering monuments to art deco architecture like the Philcade Building. In “Tulsa King,” Dwight waited at Fourth Street for the Walk sign to beckon him across Boston Avenue. After you make the trek across Boston Avenue and pose for a photo op, head to the nearby ramen shop, Roppongi, for a bowl of Miso ramen and some spring rolls.

Bred-2-Buck Saloon – Oklahoma City, Okla.

4120 Newcastle Road, Oklahoma City, OK, USA

Owned and operated by Mitch Keller (Garrett Hedlund) the Bred-2-Buck Saloon is a bar and grill and one of Dwight’s favorite spots, before it eventually became a makeshift headquarters for Manfredi’s merry gang. The drinks at Bred-2-Buck are strong, the ribs are the best in Tulsa (allegedly), and most importantly, it’s situated on Native American land, which means that Oklahoma police have no jurisdiction and can – and do – kindly leave when asked. The saloon received a major facelift in the second season, but the original building used to film in season one is the now vacant Whisky Barrel Saloon at 4120 Newcastle Road in Oklahoma City.

Center of the Universe, Tulsa, Okla, USA

No doubt the strangest place on our list, the Center of the Universe may seem like a regular plot of cement at a quick glance. But, it’s basically a mini acoustic echo chamber, located right in downtown Tulsa. The story goes that if you stand in the middle of the circle — there’s a series of circular bricks there — and speak, your voice will echo and amplify. If you’re standing outside of the circle when someone speaks, the sound from the person in the middle of the circle is distorted. It’s a strange phenomenon that has captivated visitors for years and was the focal point of the second episode, appropriately named “Center of the Universe,” when Dwight stumbles upon it and yells “Horse!” upon seeing a white pony gallop by. This is where, at the end of the episode, Dwight returned and made an emotional confession about his daughter.

Another one of Dwight’s favorite places to sip beverages in expensive suits was Triangle Coffee Roasters Coffee where he sees a white horse named “Pilot” – thought by many viewers to be the equine version of the Mafioso – and first met barista Spencer (Sly’s daughter, Scarlet Rose Stallone) who later became the horse’s caretaker at Fennario Ranch. Though Triangle Coffee Roasters has since closed, you can still visit the location where Dwight watched for Pilot and ordered a double espresso at Coracle Coffee, located at 314 South Cincinnati Avenue in downtown Tulsa.

Auto Solutions

Donnie Shore’s Auto Solutions – Oklahoma City, Okla.

Auto Solutions, 5600 Northwest 39th Street, Oklahoma City, OK, USA

After Tyson Mitchell (Jay Will) picks up Dwight from the airport in episode one “Go West, Old Man,” the former taxi driver quickly develops an admiration for the mafioso and agrees to become Manfredi’s personal driver, cementing himself as a key player in the Tulsa crime syndicate. Within hours of meeting one another, Dwight hands Tyson a wad of cash and instructs him to go purchase a Lincoln Navigator. After things don’t go quite as planned for Tyson at Donnie Shore’s Auto Solutions, Dwight visits the dealership alongside his new driver to “talk” with the owner and proprietor Donnie Shore (Steve Witting) who is the “Tulsa King” equivalent of “Breaking Bad” and “Better Call Saul” character, Saul Goodman (Bob Odenkirk). It may not be operated by Donnie Shore himself, but next time you’re in Oklahoma City, you can see Auto Solutions at 5600 Northwest 39th Street.

Golden Driller – Tulsa, Okla.

Golden Driller Statue, East 21st Street, Tulsa, OK, USA

As the sixth tallest statue in the country, Golden Driller is to Tulsa what the Statue of Liberty is to New York City; a beacon associated with its respective city. It is 76-feet tall and weighs roughly 43,500 lbs., and depicts a shirtless oil worker donning a broad belt buckle with the word “Tulsa” scribed across it in oil-slick paint. Golden Driller is painted a mustard yellow hue and rests his right hand on a giant derrick from an actual depleted Seminole, Okla., oil field. A hop, skip and jump away from Route 66, Golden Driller is now an official state monument of Oklahoma and serves as a reminder of Tulsa’s oil history. If you don’t have plans to visit the sculpture in Tulsa, you can also catch it in the “Tulsa King” intro.

Like a true gangster with an endless supply of money to burn, Dwight opts to live out of a suite at the swanky Mayo Hotel instead of buying a house, renting an apartment, or at the very least reserving an Airbnb or Vrbo like a frugal criminal. Opened in 1925, the historic hotel is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, was once the tallest building in Oklahoma, and hosted guests like Babe Ruth, Mae West, Charlie Chaplin, and John F. Kennedy. Fun fact: After a pricey renovation in the late aughts, Britney Spears was the hotel’s first guest in September 2009.

In the fourth episode “Visitation Place,” Dwight and his crew find themselves face-to-face with members of the Black Macadam Motorcycle Gang at the Ogallala-Land Festival. The two groups get into a scuffle after a dispute about who has the right to sell hits of nitrous oxide at the hippie festival. It’s one of the first big tastes of violence viewers get and also the beginning of the feud between the two groups. The festival scenes were all shot at the OKC State Fairgrounds in Oklahoma City, where the Oklahoma State Fair is held each September.

While much of “Tulsa King” was filmed on location in Oklahoma, many of the show’s interior shots were filmed at Prairie Surf Studios in downtown Oklahoma City. The film and television production studios are located in a 1.3 million square foot facility with five different soundstages, with one measuring 35,000 square feet. While “Tulsa King” moved production to Georgia for the second season, Prairie Surf Studios has also been used for films like the 2021 sports drama “American Underdog,” Martin Scorsese’s 2023 “Killers of the Flower Moon,” and 2024’s “Twisters,” starring Glen Powell and Daisy Edgar-Jones.

Tulsa International Airport (TUL), Airport Drive, Tulsa, Okla, USA

After Dwight is released from prison, he visits the home of Pete Invernizzi (A.C. Peterson), the head of the Invernizzi crime family, to meet with him, his son Chickie Invernizzi (Domenick Lombardozzi), and other capos. Moments later, Dwight is ordered to Tulsa as there are no work prospects for him in New York. The first time we see Dwight in “The Paris of the Southwest” is in the terminal of Tulsa International Airport. Dwight then walks outside of the airport where he is promptly attacked by a grasshopper and a religious woman spraying holy water on him. And despite its name, the airport only serves domestic destinations.
