"Elsbeth" Filming Locations - Times Square in New York City.

A Guide To “Elsbeth” Filming Locations

BY Hilary Harty | November 4, 2024

Before we talk about “Elsbeth” filming locations, let us guess. You’re here because you decided to watch an episode of “The Good Wife” with your mom back in 2009, which morphed into a weekly ritual of watching all 156 episodes of the show through 2016, which then turned into watching all 60 episodes of its spin-off “The Good Fight” from 2017 through 2022, which led you to binging the first season of the THIRD spin-off “Elsbeth,” before season two premiered on October 17 — takes deep breath — right?

Whether you’re a die-hard fan of the Robert and Michelle King telematic universe or you randomly watched an episode of “Elsbeth” because it automatically played after the finale of “Mayor of Kingstown,” the nosy Elsbeth Tascioni, played by Carrie Preston, is an addictive character who accidentally stumbles her way into solving murders using her quirky observation skills. One of the biggest stars of the show is its location, New York. We’ve compiled a list of our favorite “Elsbeth” filming locations to check out next time you’re in New York City and Long Island.

45 Rockefeller Plaza, New York, NY, USA

Every film and television show set in New York City needs at least one Rockefeller Center feature if it’s bound to be a hit, and luckily, “Elsbeth” understood the assignment. Starting off with a bang in the pilot episode, Elsbeth meets with Captain Wagner at an eatery overlooking the ice-skating rink to experience “the real New York” and hash out the details of her new consent decree assignment. If you’ve visited or live in New York, you’ve likely been to Rockefeller Center at least once, whether it was to get a view from the Top of the Rock or show off to visiting family members. If the Big Apple is still on your bucket list, we recommend adding it.

In “An Ear for an Ear” (episode six) Elsbeth meets up with her boss, Agent Fred Celetano, played by Danny McCarthy, and Martin Wali, played by Ajay Naidu, to secretly discuss potential corruption within the police department. The trio meet at the Alice in Wonderland sculpture in Central Park before walking beside Conservatory Water, a serene pond nearby. The bronze sculpture portrays characters from Lewis Carroll’s “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” and is one of the most beloved works of art in the park.

Located in Flushing, Queens, Citi Field has provided New York Mets fans a trusty outpost to eat hot dogs and chug beer at since 2009. While the ballpark is our favorite place to watch the Mets play a doubleheader against the Braves, the stadium hosted the cast of “Elsbeth” on a blustery winter day to film “Ball Girl” (episode five), where Elsbeth investigates the death of tennis pro Johann “Yoyo” Arnaldo, played by Gui Agustini. The episode also stars Blair Underwood as Cliff McGrath, the coach and father of another tennis pro, whom you may know better from “Sex and the City,” when he played Dr. Robert, the love interest of the fiery Miranda Hobbes, played by Cynthia Nixon.

Perhaps New York City’s most iconic building, the Empire State Building has made cameos in numerous pop culture classics like “King Kong,” “Sleepless in Seattle,” “The Muppets Take Manhattan” and so many more — seriously, there’s an entire Wikipedia page dedicated to the Empire State Building’s role in media. In “An Ear for an Ear” (episode six), Elsbeth points out the 102-floor skyscraper, quipping that she loves it so much (and to not tell the Chrysler Building). Whether you live in Manhattan or are visiting for the week, zipping up the elevator and taking in the ether from the observatory is an NYC rite of passage.

Hampton Jitney

Hampton Jitney

Hampton Jitney – Southampton, N.Y.

Okay, there isn’t much to see here. The Hampton Jitney is just a bus. BUT, as Elsbeth investigates the mysterious death of Gabriel Erwood, played by Ryan Cooper, in “Love Knocked Off” (episode four), she visits the Hamptons via this charter bus on a chilly winter day to question an antiques dealer. Though the episode takes place in the Hamptons, it is filmed in Port Washington, N.Y., and thus, Elsbeth only fictionally travels by way of the Hampton Jitney. That said, just like a billionaire’s transportation of choice is a private jet, we think that the Hampton Jitney is the ideal way to visit the seaside resort and see how the other side lives any time of year.

After we’re introduced to Elsbeth courtesy of her tour de Times Square on the Hip-Hop Tour Bus, she asks the bus to stop after she spots a gaggle of police officers standing in front of the Waterline Square Luxury Condominiums, where the death of Olivia Cherry, played by Alex Costello, is being investigated. It’s here, in front of Morty’s Wine & Beer Bar on the bottom floor of Waterline Square, that Elsbeth meets NYPD officer Kaya Blanke, played by Carra Patterson, who comes to be a pseudo-partner and friend of Elsbeth through the series. The cops never dip into Morty’s, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t. After a day of getting 20,000+ steps in, we think that a soft pretzel and French 75 is the vertex of where high meets low.

Riverdale building on the Upper West Side.

The Riverdale – Manhattan, N.Y.

67 Riverside Drive, Manhattan, New York, N.Y., USA

In the second episode of the first season, “A Classic New York Character,” Elsbeth investigates the accidental death of an Upper West Side curmudgeon named Gloria Blecher, played by Linda Lavin, after she tragically fell to her death thanks to a loose bolt on a balcony railing. Doubts start to develop as Elsbeth questions the tenants of the building and the building’s broker, Joann Lenox, played by the hilarious Jane Krakowski. The building where the episode was filmed sits at 67 Riverside Drive and is one of the oldest Beaux Arts cooperatives in New York City. Designed by George Fredrick Pelham in 1906, the building became a cooperative in 1979 and sits nine stories high. Think Juliet balconies, pre-war fixtures and a rooftop deck that overlooks Riverside Park and the Hudson River. None of the 28 units are currently for sale, but expect to shell out upwards of $4 million for a five-bedroom corner unit.

Times Square, Manhattan, New York, N.Y., USA

You’ve undoubtedly seen this place. It’s gross, we know. But, it’s also one of the biggest tourist attractions in New York City and worth seeing at least once. Times Square is a tacky, bright, bustling heart of Manhattan where you can get shrimp-faced after posing with a waxy Jimmy Fallon at Madame Tussauds. In the pilot episode, Elsbeth rides through Times Square on the upper deck of the Hip-Hop Tour Bus while donning a foam Statue of Liberty crown and looking around with the kind of wide-eyed wonder that only an out-of-towner could possess.

After Elsbeth runs into Margo Clarke at the Hamptons Antique Store in “Love Knocked Off” (episode four), the pair take a wintry stroll through Town Dock Park in Port Washington to discuss the details of Gabriel Erwood’s murder. Located just off Main Street, the park sits on the shores of Manhasset Bay and primarily caters to fishing and boating enthusiasts.
