Star-crossed lover of the Juliet Plum Festival, The Romeo Peach Festival returns to Michigan for Labor Day Weekend, with what is essentially a giant fruit-themed county fair complete with carnival rides, games and a LOT of food. A slew of peach-related traditions have started, ended and evolved since the festival began in 1931, and they continue to draw thousands to the event each year. The festival is particularly a hit within the local community, but also attracts plenty of visitors to Romeo each year.
Put your little ones in the themed children’s parades, let the Peach Queen Pageant judge your teenage daughter’s appearance — one can only hope she has a likeness to the fruit— or check out the festival’s dozens of other activities including 5k and 10k fun-runs, local markets, carnival rides, parades, fireworks and a new lineup of live music every night. Smaller activities are also scattered throughout the weekend for all ages like an annual pancake breakfast and “Peachy Craft Show.” If you want something weirdly niche, the festival also hosts “Pre-Teen Pie Eating,” and the local high school’s “Wrestling Bean Bag Fundraiser.”
Vendors in 2022 included The Rustic Bluebird which stocked the festival with pies and desserts, Gambino’s Kitchen with onsite wood-burning pizza ovens, and Chatitas Mexican food truck. Beyond prepared meals, the festival also has several markets selling local fruit and baked goods.
