Set in the scenic Vinoy Park, in St. Petersburg, Fla., just a few steps from the ocean, Reggae Rise Up Florida draws reggae fans from all over the U.S. for four days of music across two stages. This beachy festival, which touts “good vibes,” is a celebration of Jamaican culture in all its forms, but you don’t have to be a wild reggae fan to join in.
This year, American reggae rock band Dirty Heads will bring their Southern California vibes on Thursday, along with Grammy award winner and rapper Lupe Fiasco. Some of the festival veterans, like California-native Rebelution band and True Love band Soja, will play the following night.
Along with music, Vinoy Park will have more than 100 craft and food vendors, like Tica’s Tacos and Jerk Hut, which is a staple Jamaican restaurant in Tampa Bay. And if you don’t want to leave the festival empty-handed, stop at ReggaeNthings for some unique Jamaican and rasta wear, plus other authentic products.
