Outside Lands is sort of like a big San Francisco park day. It’s named for the outer, western neighborhoods of the city, and has the Bay area’s mainstays: a designated cannabis area (called Grass Lands), tech bros and a redwoods canopy. Big names in performers and sponsors, but low-key in effect, the three-day festival takes place amidst Golden Gate Park in San Francisco.

Past headliners have included Kendrick Lamar, Foo Fighters, Odesza, Lana Del Rey, Megan Thee Stallion and Maggie Rogers. This year the headliners include The Killers, Sabrina Carpenter, Sturgill Simpson and Post Malone.

Apart from the music, there are often art installations and local artists popping up stands throughout the festival. The dress code is laid back. People wear anything from jean shorts to glittery festival attire, all generally appropriate for traversing seven stages across the park’s 80 acres. This is California, so of course you can bring a water bottle and refill it at water stations throughout the festival grounds. When you’re not grooving or cheering for a favorite artist on a tech bro’s shoulder, hit up Grass Lands or check out the Taste of the Bay Area, which has booths from nearly 100 local restaurants and 30+ wineries. There’s even an area where you can get married — dubbed “city hall” — where attendees can get hitched.
