Snakeskin boots and eyeliner. Leather jackets and cowboy hats. This ain’t no Nic Cage movie, this is the proprietary blend of 80’s hard rock and contemporary country music that Lakefront Music Fest has shaped into its personal brand. Think southern rockers like Lynyrd Skynyrd and Alabama (this year’s headliner and last year’s, respectively) plus some backroads radio favorites like Darius Rucker and Travis Tritt (this year’s and last year’s other headliners, respectively) to keep things grounded.
If a lake town in the far suburbs of the Twin Cities seems like an unexpected place to find your country roots—well, it is. But you’ll forget all that when you cool off in nearby Prior Lake, the locals’ favorite way to beat the summer heat and a short five-minute walk from the main (and only) stage. Lakefront Music Fest has been around since 2010, so it’s had plenty of time to amass an army of food-trucks and beverage vendors to fuel the fun. Vegans and those with other dietary restrictions might find the selection of barbecue and doughnuts a bit lacking, but at least it’s on-brand. Plus, your beer money’s going to a good cause, since Lakefront Music Fest is technically a fundraiser for the Rotary Club of Prior Lake and other local non-profits. Party with a purpose, my friends.
Oh, and when you get there, don’t forget to yell “Freebird!”
