Since its inception in 2008, Hard Summer has become one of Insomniac’s biggest electronic music festivals, even rivaling the promoter’s other staples like Electric Daisy Carnival and Beyond Wonderland. Last year, performances from Diplo, Skrillex, Kid Cudi and 21 Savage illuminated Hard Summer as a festival at the crossroads of house, techno and hip hop. This year, the reputation holds strong with headlining sets from the Grammy-nominated duo Disclosure, a collab by Fisher + Chris Lake called “Under Construction” and a deadmau5 and Rezz collaborative set known as Rezzmau5. The lineup is filtered across five stages, each with its own vibe. Prefer house and techno? You’ll be spending most of your time at the Pink Stage. Chest-thumping dubstep? The Green Stage is for you. Maybe a mix of genres? Head on over to The Harder Stage for a blend of high-energy DJs and smooth, tasty bass drops.
This year’s festival will move to the 300-acre Inglewood’s Hollywood Park from its former home at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. More space means more room for bursting pyrotechnics, billowing smoke jets, massive LED displays and obviously, nonstop dancing in your best lime green mesh tank top. As Southern California electronic festival do, Hard Summer will have the signature palm trees, inflatable flamingos and a bigass ferris wheel. If you shell out for a VIP ticket, you’ll also get some relief from the August heat at a splash pool, WiFi and air-conditioned bathrooms. Regardless of ticket type, this year promises to have more shade structures and water refilling stations available throughout the weekend.
