Look up country music in the Encyclopedia, and here’s what you’ll find: in the back of a smoky dance hall, between the bar and a makeshift stage of recycled feed pallets, a dozen tired-eyed cattle ranchers two-step to lonesome lyrics, sung by a man in a wide-brimmed hat. Outside in a stockyard, cattle cow-yodel about their impending doom underneath the starry Texas sky.
The Fort Worth Music Festival & Conference pretty much hits that nail square on the head. Dance halls? Check. Lonesome lyrics? Check. Stockyard? Check. Wide-brimmed hats? Triple-check. Cattle? You probably don’t have to stray too far.
Now in its second year, the Fort Worth Music Festival & Conference is held in the historic Fort Worth Stockyards, now a hotspot of music venues, bars and restaurants. This four-day festival focuses on broadly-inclusive country, with a heavy seasoning of rock Americana, and highlights those who got their start in the Lone Star State. Headliners include Texas homeboy William Clark Green and Austin-based Band of Heathens, while supporting artists include the local, Deep Ellum-grown Angel White, who blends R&B, country western and soul pop, and The Tejas Brothers, who call themselves the original Fort Worth Tex-Mex Honky Tonk band.
The Fort Worth Music Festival also has a conference component. Musicians and industry professionals can purchase special passes, which give access to panel discussions and keynote speakers with live music industry executives, networking opportunities, and workshops in addition to all of the festival performances.
