Despite promising fans a 2024 return, Firefly Music Festival has been cancelled indefinitely. Just a month after the four-day festival ended in 2022 with headliners Dua Lipa, Halsey, Green Day and My Chemical Romance, showrunners revealed they would “take a year to recharge our lights.”
The rock and pop festival from AEG Presents — the producers behind a long list of festivals including Coachella, Head In The Clouds, and Cali Vibes — ran for 10 years at the Woodlands of Dover Motor Speedway. While no statements were made in regards to the cancellations, some suspect it may have to do with decreasing attendance, which dropped from 90,000 in 2015 to 60,000 in 2019. In 2021, AEG capped the festival at 50,000 due to COVID regulations and didn’t release any attendance numbers for the subsequent year. Rumors and theories suggest competing festivals and other reasons. For now, the future of the festival is uncertain as AEG has said a return will happen “someday when the timing is right.”
