Country Thunder Florida, which started in 1993 as an annual country music festival in Arizona’s Canyon Moon Ranch, has added stops throughout the U.S. and Canada so country fans across the North America can gather for some good old boot-stomping. This October, for the fourth time, Country Thunder will rage through Kissimmee, Fla., close enough to Orlando you can hop over to Disney World for a saccharine break from all the red, white and beer.
Keith Urban, Cody Johnson and HARDY the lineup of 19 artists. So break out the cowboy hats — from the looks of it, hats are basically a prerequisite — and be ready to settle in. The Florida version of Country Thunder Florida plays more like one long concert, or even an SEC football game, than a festival. There’s only one stage with a pit, standing lawn sections and lots of traditional seating (a.k.a. chairs). Like any good game day, people start tailgating hours before the festival starts.
Though the ticket packages and camping plots are pricey, this festival isn’t glamorous. You can rent a personal Port-a-Potty and lock it from unwanted guests — an add-on that must be helpful given how readily it’s advertised. The tent camping won’t be tucked away in the middle of nowhere in lush Florida wilderness, but on a lawn near the festival grounds on Osceola Heritage Park. Showers go for 10 bucks a pop, cash only.
