THIS FESTIVAL HAS BEEN CANCELLED
The call of the ocean sounds like rock n’ roll, or at least, the last weekend of September it will. That’s when Ocean City’s newest music festival, Oceans Calling, will host its inaugural event on Maryland’s Ocean City Boardwalk overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. New does not mean small, however. Oceans Calling expects 40,000 people to attend and has recruited huge acts like Cyndi Lauper, Dave Matthews, Cage the Elephant, Alanis Morissette, The Lumineers, and Sublime to perform on its three stages. Some of this star power comes courtesy of the festival’s founders, O.A.R., one of the first bands launched by the internet and authors of the exquisitely-2008, yearn-filled rock song “Shattered.” Of course, O.A.R. will perform multiple times over the course of the weekend. Maryland is their home state, after all.
We can’t tell you what’s it’s going to be like yet, but Oceans Calling has partnered with C3 Presents, the same event production company behind Austin City Limits and Lollapalooza, and will take place at Jolly Roger on the Pier, so we can safely assume there will be a lot of partying and carnival rides. There will be cooking demonstrations led by celebrity chefs Robert Irvine, Andrew Zimmern, and Amanda Freitag. One thing we do know: parking will be hard to come by, so it’s best to use public transportation, two wheels, or your own two feets to get there if you can.
