A badge of pride for any party, Louder Than Life gets noise complaints from its neighbors. Those who live within a mile radius of Louisville’s Highland Festival grounds can feel the performances, drums and all, reverberating in their houses. What’s shaking locals, and thrilling attendees, runs the gamut of top-shelf rock and metal. Nine Inch Nails, Alice In Chains, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Incubus, Slipknot and Kiss are among the 100+ artists set to perform over the five-day fest. Tens of thousands of people will be there, some whom call themselves Loudmouths, a dedicated community of Louder Than Life fans that arose on social media. In the Leo Weekly, Loudmouth Jeff Polk describes them as “the most vulgar, nicest people you’ll ever meet.” The tatted group comes to dress in black and party hard. But, you can’t party in a field in Kentucky without having some really good whiskey. Nor can you come to the South without having some really good food. Louder Than Life is known for supplying both.
Louder Than Life debuted in 2014 and in 2019, the fest hosted more than 128,000 fans over three days, making it one of the largest rock festivals in America, according to Billboard. The fest added a fourth day in 2021 and attracted 160,000.
